birthday party

Catching up a little. The SLR photos always take a little while to get to. But I thought, I might as well post. I really want to avoid this blog becoming only camera phone posts, as easy and tempting that can be sometimes.

Here are more captures from the kids' birthday party (for some reason, I had only edited half of them back in January). We didn't plan any big themes or games. Just put a bunch of kids together and let the chaos begin. Auntie Sam and Uncle Ben brought a few balloons, which were a big hit. A bunch of kids running around and being crazy, not eating a bite of lunch, then stopping for a few minutes to eat some cake. That's what it's all about.

I remember being so exhausted after this party. But now I look back and don't really remember that part of it as much as the fun they had. Birthday parties and childbirth, you're meant to forget the hard parts!

cake and party

two birthdays in 5 days
one kid party
100 year old plate that I bought almost 15 years ago (finally found a use for it) - yeah I was an odd, antique collecting teenager
lots of noise, energy and excitement when your mix 7 kids under 4
waiting to eat your jellybean decorated cake is really hard
late night cake baking followed by party is a little exhausting for Mama

bird watching

The birds are busy preparing for winter, so we've put our feeders back up. We missed having our little friends at our window all summer. We used our last available toilet paper roll on the elephant in the corner, so rolled up paper works too.

--- This mourning dove is trying to push the soaking wet (on a rainy day) bluejay away from the feeder.

Blueberries!

They were totally in love with the abundance of their favourite food in the forest near our house. Maeva was trying to pick them while in the sling. Then I took her out, and it was the first time she ever stayed in one place for so long. Totally loving these wild blueberry gems.

When visiting as a child, this has always been my favourite part about summer in this city. The berries and the lakes. It's all about the blue.
