portrait of my boy

I love those moments, when I look up and see a portrait right there in front of me, with lovely natural light and pose. I especially love when there is some kind of recording device nearby. Of course, there are many that I just have to savour and enjoy in the moment and then let go. But as a parent, I'm in this long lesson in letting go, so I do love getting a moment that I can (kind of) come back to and see again.
And sometimes it goes beyond the image itself, it is a little bookmark that allows the retrieval of other little moments surrounding that particular capture. The spring fresh air and bird sounds coming in through the window. Sitting in our room, drinking lattes while John ironed. And then sitting around with those lattes and magazines while the kids napped. Anderson wandering in, still half sleepy and snuggling up to us. Then Anderson waking up fully and awakening a whole make believe world in our bedroom, complete with a mine and job site and friends. John sleeping through his boisterous and very loud play, while I try to put words to the moment.
