I've never really been into TV, and it really wasn't a big part of our life. Recently, our TV broke, so we cancelled our cable. I love, love, love having no TV. Even though we never used it much and almost never used it for the kids, many weekend plans involved renting and watching a movie once the kids went to bed. Now we have to think of things to do, or just be okay with doing nothing much. We go to bed earlier, talk more, and relax better. We usually light a candle, sit and chat or read. It is really good quality time together, so it fills us up. We also seem to be in better tune with how tired we feel and have been going to bed earlier. There is more time for talking, reading, listening to music, singing, and just watching the kids (which we're lucky are at very entertaining ages). Lots of time for moments like these...
Anderson is very into music these days and learning to sing. Lately, it has been Hayden, "Bad as They Seem". "Girl of my dreams, things are as bad as they seem, she is only sixteen...(and so on)"...ends up as - "girl of my dranos, rasberries they seem, (pause) sixteen...someone I adore, who'll make me laugh. be my better half" Too cute!
We haven't had cable for years, and I love love love it too. Just yesterday I put in some children's DVD we got for free at Centreville for Samson and I *hated* the zoned out look with which he was watching it. I'm not saying I won't let him watch movies or the odd episode of Sesame Street on Apple TV, but I'm so glad I'm not raising a TV zombie. Good for you!
